Foreign language proficiency tests are currently not a requirement for new student admissions. However, prospective students who have the ability and achievement in foreign languages ​​can be accepted at UMM through the achievement path according to the applicable criteria.

A foreign language test at UMM is currently required for students who have been accepted as new students and before they graduate. For the English test of newly accepted students, the results will be used as a placement for the Foreign Language for Specific Purposes (FLSP) class programme. FLSP is a curricular programme to improve foreign language skills for students, especially English. The programme is certified as a diploma in English Language Skills.

Besides FLSP, UMM supports efforts to increase students' foreign language competence through the non-curricular programme of foreign language development in the Student Activity Unit, namely the International Language Forum (ILF). ILF activities include seminars, discussion, English debate, public speaking class, and culture sharing. In addition, ILF actively participates in regional, national, and international debate competitions. The foreign language competitions also annually held at the faculty and university level include the Dean Cup, Rector Cup, and UMM Championship activities. It is expected that with these efforts, students can have good English skills before they graduate. Moreover, it is also hoped that when taking the English test before graduation, they can get a satisfactory score.
